Know the inputs
The principal is the amount borrowed, the interest rate describes the borrowing cost, and tenure is the repayment period. EMI is the regular payment produced by those inputs under the calculator's assumptions.
When comparing lenders, make sure you are comparing like-for-like rates, tenure and repayment frequency. A lower monthly payment can result from a longer tenure and may increase total interest paid.
Look beyond the monthly EMI
A useful comparison includes total repayment and total interest, not just the monthly number. Also check processing fees, insurance, penalties, prepayment conditions and whether the quoted rate is fixed or variable when those details apply.
Calculator results are estimates. Your lender's official loan offer and repayment schedule should be used for the final contractual figures. In particular, confirm whether the quoted interest rate changes during the tenure and whether fees or insurance are financed as part of the loan amount, because those details can change the effective repayment burden.
Use scenarios instead of one number
Try multiple principal amounts and tenures to see how the payment changes. Keeping the assumptions explicit makes the result easier to understand and avoids treating one calculated scenario as a promise of what a particular lender will approve.
Recommended workflow
- Open EMI Calculator and enter the loan principal.
- Enter the interest rate and repayment tenure.
- Review monthly EMI, total interest and total repayment.
- Run another scenario with a different tenure or principal when comparing options.
- Verify the final figures against the lender's official terms before making a commitment.
